let’s do a spring refresh

As the seasons change, so does how we feel in our home and how we use it. I think with every new season, it’s an opportunity to give some aspects of your home a refresh. Spring is the perfect time. Warmer weather, brighter colours, and hopefully, fresh flowers. Here are a few simple ideas for refreshing your space this spring.

ADD FLORALS

One of the simplest ways to refresh an area of your home is to bring in greenery or flowers. It may sound a little too simple, but if it’s not something you do regularly, the addition of florals can have a huge impact. Get a vase. Fill the vase. Feel the joy.

CREATE A VIGNETTE

“What’s a vignette?” you may ask. A vignette is a grouping of objects arranged in a way that creates visual appeal. I like to create vignettes on coffee tables, dressers, tables, etc. You can use books, boxes, vases, decor pieces - the possibilities are endless. A good starting point is to select three to five pieces to include. They can be varying materials, sizes, or shapes; however, they should ultimately work well together in some way. When creating a vignette, remember to layer. Stack pieces on top and in front of other pieces.

TRY A NEW FURNITURE LAYOUT

Moving furniture around can change the feel and function of a space. Whether you move larger pieces, such as a sofa or chair, or smaller pieces, such as a side table, try something new. I like to use small pieces, such as lamps, stools, and side tables to change the look and feel of a space. If you’re looking to add new pieces to your home, stools and side tables can be inexpensive, as well as versatile. It’s also a great opportunity to integrate something vintage or antique if that’s your jam. You can use a smaller piece to introduce a new material, such as marble, steel, concrete, or rattan.

DISPLAY ART

I find that art is often overlooked in many spaces. Adding art can be an inexpensive and easy way to refresh a space. With the growing number of online shops selling art prints, beautiful art has become more accessible. I’m someone who believes that art belongs almost everywhere. Try displaying it in an unexpected place, such as above a doorway, in a walk-in closet, or on your kitchen counter.
